The Cincinnati RailRaiders is a professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The AHL formed in 1941 and currently serves as a developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Cincinnati RailRaiders joined the AHL for the 2006-2007 season. The Baltimore Bandits, from Baltimore, Maryland, relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, at the end of the 1996-1997 season, becoming the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. The Mighty Ducks remained part of the AHL for nine seasons. Usually, the team failed to attain a winning record, only securing a winning season in 2000-2001 and 2004-2005. The team never advanced beyond the second round of the playoffs. For the 2005-2006 season, the team remained idle due to not having a sponsoring NHL team. Following this season, the team became known as the Cincinnati RailRaiders.
