On the Fahrenheit scale, water freezes at 32 degrees (written 32F) and boils at 212 degrees (212F). This is contrasted to the Centigrade scale, which is used for scientific measurements as well as being the scale used in Canada and most of Europe. For comparison, freezing of water is at 0C and water boils at 100C.

Temperatures can be converted from Centigrade to Fahrenheit with the following formula: F = 9/5C + 32. Fore example, to convert 20 degrees Centigrade to Fahrenheit, follow these steps:

  1. F = (9/5 C) +32
  2. F = (9/5 x 20) + 32
  3. F = (9 x 20 / 5) + 32
  4. F = 36 + 32
  5. F = 68 degrees F
