File:Allen County Courthouse.jpg
Description |
The third Allen County courthouse, shown in this photograph, was completed in 1884, shortly before the discovery of oil in Allen county. Architect George H. Maetzel of Columbus, Ohio designed the structure, which includes a four-sided clock tower. The Victorian-style courthouse is a blend of French Renaissance, Greek Roman and Italian style architecture. Maetzel also designed the Shelby, Franklin, and Madison county courthouses. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This image was published in Picturesque Northwestern Ohio and Battle Grounds of the Maumee Valley: An Art and Historical Work of the Northwest Section of the Buckeye State in 1901. The book measures 11" x 14" (27.9 x 35.56 cm). |
