Photograph of Big Muskie, an electric powered dragline, strip mining coal near New Cumberland, Ohio, ca. 1970. The machine was built in 1969 and used by the Central Ohio Coal Company, a division of American Electric Power. It was 151 feet wide, 222 feet tall and weighed 13,500 tons. Between 1969 and 1991 when the machine was put to rest, Big Muskie moved over 600 million cubic yards of coal.
