The temperance movement was an organized effort during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to limit or outlaw the consumption and production of alcoholic beverages in the United States. This illustration of the Ohio Whiskey War, more commonly known as the Women's Temperance Crusade, appears in "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper." It depicts the ladies of Logan singing hymns in front of bar rooms in aid of the temperance movement.
