<p>George R. Stibitz is considered to be the father of the modern computer. </p>
<p>Stibitz was born on April 30, 1904, in York, Pennsylvania. Because Stibitz loved math and science, his parents sent him to Moraine Park, a private school in Dayton, Ohio, known for its excellent science and engineering programs. Upon completing high school at Moraine Park, Stibitz enrolled at Dennison University, in Granville, Ohio, earning a doctorate in applied mathematics from this institution in 1926. The following year, Stibitz earned a Masters of Science degree from Union College and, in 1930, a doctorate in physics from Cornell University. </p>
