Union & League of Romanian Societies
Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the Union & League of Romanian Societies is the largest Romanian mutual-benefit society in the United States of America and Canada.
In 1928, the two largest Romanian mutual-benefit societies, the Union and the League united together as the Union & League of Romanian Societies. The new organization quickly spread across North America, with chapters in existence across the continent. At first, this group helped provide Romanian immigrants with a social and cultural institution to practice traditional Romanian customs and beliefs. The Union & League of Romanian Societies also provided members with financial assistance if they became ill or helped with funeral costs if a family member died. Beginning in 1964, the organization also provided mortgage loans to its members. The Union & League of Romanian Societies continues to enhance Ohio's cultural landscape at the start of the twenty-first century.
