Courthouse Colts

From Ohio History Central

The Courthouse Colts was a semi-professional football team from Washington Court House, Ohio. The team originally was known as the Washington Cowboys. The squad was a founding member of and originally played in the Mid Eastern Football League. Established in 1994, the Cowboys emerged as the champion in the league’s first season. Over the next two seasons (1995 and 1996), the Cowboys failed to repeat as champions, but in its first three seasons, the squad amassed twenty-two wins and eight losses, including going undefeated in its championship season.

In 1997, the Cowboys joined the Northern Ohio League, a more prestigious, semi professional football league. The team switched its name to the Courthouse Colts, bringing the Washington Cowboys’ brief history to an end. The Colts struggled in this new league, attaining only four wins and six losses in its first season in the league. Due to inadequate finances, the Colts disbanded after this initial season.
