On July 12, 1931, the Cleveland Indians joined the National Football League. This professional football team existed only for the 1931 season and played its home games in Cleveland, Ohio. Previously, two other Cleveland Indians teams had existed. The first played during the 1921 season in Cleveland. Samuel H. Deutsch, a jeweler in Cleveland, formed the second team on July 8, 1923. Both of these earlier Indians teams also played in the National Football League.
