In 1971, Marion Technical College formed in Marion, Ohio. The institution's primary goal was to provide technical training to residents of Marion County, Ohio. Only 187 students enrolled at the college during its first year. By the mid-1990s, Marion Technical College offered over thirty Associate and other certificate degree programs.
In 2005, Marion Technical College continued to provide two-year Associates degrees and certificates in over forty programs to local residents. By 2005, the college had awarded 5,237 Associates degrees, and 27,146 students had enrolled at the institution. This same year, Marion Technical College consisted of five buildings on 180 acres and shared its campus with The Ohio State University at Marion.
