In 1977, the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA) formed. Organizers of this league hoped to create a second professional basketball minor league in North America, providing more players a chance to compete and hopefully to attract the attention of National Basketball Association teams. The AABA consisted of nineteen teams, but only eight teams actually played. The other eleven teams, including the Ohio Orbits, never formed. The Orbits was named for Ohio
