Ridna Shkola

Ridna Shkola is a Ukrainian school in Cleveland, Ohio.

Beginning in the late nineteenth century, a sizable number of Ukrainian immigrants came to the United States of America. Thousands of them eventually settled in Cleveland, Ohio and in surrounding communities. In 1950, these immigrants formed Ridna Shkola. Ridna Shkola was a school held on Saturdays. Children of Ukrainian Clevelanders could attend and receive instruction in the Ukrainian language. Teachers instructed their students in Ukrainian customs, beliefs, and history. By the early 1970s, the school enjoyed an average enrollment of more than three hundred students each academic year. Ridna Shkola continues to operate at the time of this writing. The school is just one example of how immigrant Ohioans try to maintain ties to their native countries.
