Shaw, Norman E.

{ Norman Ewing Shaw was Ohio's fifteenth Secretary of Agriculture. The Secretary of Agriculture served as the head of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture.

Shaw was born in 1876, in New Richmond, Ohio. In 1906, he graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelors of science degree in agriculture. Upon graduating, Shaw became an instructor at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in Wooster, Ohio. Two years later, Shaw accepted a position as chief of Ohio's Bureau of Horticulture. Shaw dedicated the remainder of his life to serving the State of Ohio. In 1917, he became Ohio's fifteenth Secretary of Agriculture, a position that he held until 1920. Shaw was the last secretary elected by the Ohio Board of Agriculture's members. Ohio's governor appointed future secretaries. Upon stepping down as secretary, Shaw eventually became a member of the Ohio Conservation Council. In 1930, while still serving in this position, Shaw died in an automobile accident.
