Ukrainian National Association

The Ukrainian National Association was one of the first Ukrainian mutual-benefit societies in Ohio.

Beginning in the late nineteenth century, a sizable number of Ukrainian immigrants came to the United States of America. In 1894, Ukrainians in New York established the Ukrainian National Association. This group originally provided health and death benefits to its members. The Ukrainian National Association eventually opened chapters in other North American cities, including in 1902, in Cleveland, Ohio, where thousands of Ukrainians lived. The Ukrainian National Association continues to operate at the time of this writing. The organization provides health and life insurance, death benefits, educational loans, and mortgages to its more than fifty thousand members. The Ukrainian National Association serves as just one example of how immigrant Ohioans tried to preserve their native cultures and beliefs.
