On June 25, 1957, the United Church of Christ (UCC) formed in Cleveland, Ohio. On that date, the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches united together to create the United Church of Christ. This Christian church is known for its tolerance. It welcomes people of all faiths into its churches. It is also open to women ministers, as well as promoting full church rights for gay and lesbian people. The UCC leadership does not try to impose its views on its parishioners. Rather, the UCC is welcoming of all views and interpretations of the Bible and Christ's word. The UCC's national headquarters are located in Cleveland.
